The campus is buzzing with a budget debate which is sure to remain a hot topic all semester long. The budget cuts proposed by the SUNY New Paltz administration are poised to face intense opposition from students and faculty alike.
On Tuesday, Feb. 22, SUNY New Paltz students are holding a forum to discuss the consequences of the proposed budget cuts. The forum will take place in the Student Union Building from 7 to 9 p.m., and will be hosted by the Student Association Executive Board and Senate.
In addition, the United University Professions (UUP) chapter of New Paltz is holding a town meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 23 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in the Coykendall Science Building Auditorium to discuss the far-reaching impacts of a budget cut. The UUP, a union comprised of school faculty and personnel, is asking the SUNY New Paltz administration to draw funds from its reserve instead of resorting to cuts.
Both meetings come as a response to the initial Feb. 10 forum, hosted by the administration, in which students and faculty met to discuss the current budget situation.
